Coping With Hair Loss
Sometimes things happen that are unexpected and highly
problematic. Whether it’s because of
monetary or health reasons, the true test lies in how we cope with the
situation. Hair loss falls perfectly
in this category. At its onset,
people can get very distressed and badly surprised, even more so for women.
It is considered as either a sign of
aging, or perceived by most as unnattractive, and something nobody looks
forward to. Since it can be
caused by a sickness or internal hormonal problem, people may panic,
thinking that the hair loss is a symptom of something far worse.
If handled properly and prudently,
however, dealing with hair loss is very manageable.
For one, as mentioned, the source of hair fall could be
a medical problem, especially if you are still young.
Going to the doctor should be the first thought that enters your
head. Do not even think for a
minute about handling the situation all by yourself.
There are many steps that can be
taken to find out the cause of your hair loss.
Some types are merely temporary, and the right diagnosis can be a
relief. If it is something more
permanent, though, like male pattern baldness, there are still some medical
measures available. Minoxidil and
finasteride are both approved by the FDA to be effective in certain cases.
If all else fails, there’s still hair transplantation.
The use of very realistic and
effective wigs is also practiced by many, even celebrities.
Again, do not act alone and start
buying all advertised hair growth products, as quite a number of them make
outlandish claims, and do not work.
The emotional and psychological effects of balding are
also aspects that need to be dealt with.
Most people can't let go of their hair, despite the fact that
sometimes nothing else can be done. A lot of pressure builds up from
feelings of anxiety, loneliness, and unattractiveness.
As self-esteem goes down, depression
goes up, and after a while, being a regular part of society becomes a
problem. This may sound a little
extreme just from losing hair, but it is a reality that happens regularly.
One should remember that more than the balding itself,
what causes people to shy away from you are the negative feelings you allow
yourself to feel. Some bald people
notice that nothing much around them really changes.
True friends remain friends and your family will always stick by you.
Keeping a high level of confidence despite your hair problem will
keep you just as attractive as you think you were.
It may even make you more desirable. Also,
the bald look is more acceptable now that it was back then.
It’s also a trait sported by
celebrities, having graced the red carpet more than a few times.
If the inner burden is too much to bear, talk to a
friend with a good ear. There
are many therapists that can help as well. Looking
for a good one will be rewarding in the long run.
If there is nothing medical science
can do for you physically, it can still do wonders for a healthy state of
mind. Remember, whether you want to feel confident or despondent, the choice
is yours.
