Laser Therapy for Hair Loss
Laser therapy is a newly developed, non- invasive way to treat hair loss.
This method involves the use of a low-level laser, providing light much like
the one that comes from the sun. This is said to stimulate blood flow to the
hair follicles, thereby nourishing them to encourage hair growth. This
method has become popular because it has been proven to be medically safe
and effective. It is now available to the public through the introduction of
laser combs which are being sold in retail stores.
How It Works
Laser light involves the principle of biotherapy, a process that occurs when
cells absorb light and heal themselves. The absorbed light is said to cause
an increase in blood and oxygen flow to the area which would in turn
stimulate and re-nourish the weak hair follicles. It is also responsible for
breaking down the accumulation of DHT or dihydrotestosterone, a hormone that
induces hair loss. Together, these
are the desired effects that one seeks from conventional hair loss
treatments, distilled into a modern form of delivery.
Hair usually grows as a the body develops naturally, but as one ages hair
starts to fall off, because there is less capacity to replace it due to
slower body metabolism and processes. This could get worse when genetic
factors come in, such as increased DHT hormone production, hereditary
diffuse hair loss, a history of bald spots and stress. Once the hair
follicles have died, they can no longer be restored. An immediate remedy
must be done before this occurs and becomes permanent.
The therapeutic red light rays of this special laser treatment can help
regenerate a healthier scalp by delivering blood flow which clears the
follicle from dirt, debris, and clogged hair oil, thus closing the follicle
from other foreign substances that may hinder hair growth.
Results
Continued use of laser therapy improves hair growth in conjunction with the
use of other hair care products and a healthy diet. A six month period of
continuous treatment will yield positive results and must be done further to
enhance a fuller and thicker scalp. The treatment however is not designed to
totally eradicate and stop hair loss so it is prescribed that continuous
therapy for an extended period is essential if one wants continued hair
growth. Take note that hair only grows once it receives stimulation and to
those who suffer from hair loss, this stimulation is no longer induced by
the body’s natural and normal processes.
The use of laser therapy reveals numerous positive reports, though these are
mainly subjective, since the process is recommended only by those who have
tried the treatment and not any independent scientific publication. The
procedure has been observed to be more effective in women than in men who
more advanced or severe cases of hair loss. This does not prove that it is
not effective for men because some have had successful results. A more
intensive study and observation must be done to objectively measure the
effects of laser treatment and further improve its therapeutic qualities.
